Free with ChatGPT Plus

Already paying for ChatGPT Plus or Pro? Point LorePanic at your subscription and every AI feature (campaign chat, transcription, note generation) runs through it. We charge you nothing on top.

What is it?

LorePanic normally calls AI providers on its own accounts and bills you in credits. With Free with ChatGPT Plus, those calls go through your ChatGPT subscription instead. OpenAI's rate limits on your account apply. LorePanic charges you nothing.

The connection uses OpenAI's official device-code sign-in flow, the same one the Codex CLI uses. We never see your password. We only hold short-lived access tokens, encrypted at rest.

Connect your ChatGPT account

Sign in to LorePanic (or create an account).
Open Profile → Connect ChatGPT → click Connect ChatGPT.
A modal shows an 8-character code and a link to auth.openai.com/codex/device. Open the link, sign in to your ChatGPT account if needed, paste the code, and approve.
The modal flips to Connected within a few seconds.
Go to Billing and switch to the Free with ChatGPT Plus plan. (If you're on a paid plan already, cancel it in the billing portal first.)

Heads up: you may need to enable device code login in your ChatGPT account's security settings, at chatgpt.com/#settings/Security.

What works on this tier

Campaign chat. The LorePanic agent, tool calls, document search, rule lookups.
Batch transcription. Post-session audio → transcript → notes.
Live transcription. Real-time streaming during a recorded session.
Smart suggestions while a session is running.
Note generation and session summary.

Limits & caveats

Rate limits are yours. OpenAI applies per-account rate limits to your ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription. If you hit them, LorePanic surfaces an error until they reset.
Realtime transcription is chunkier. OpenAI's Realtime model streams in longer bursts than our Mistral default. Good enough for session recaps. If you want word-by-word latency, stay on a paid plan.
LLM model is fixed. The BYO tier runs on gpt-5.4, the only slug the Codex endpoint accepts today. The model dropdown is disabled while you're on this tier.
Grey area. This feature uses OpenAI's sign-in flow in a way their public docs don't explicitly bless for third-party products. OpenAI could change the terms at any time. If they do, we'll disable the tier and move you back to the free plan until you pick something else.

Switch back to a paid plan

From Billing, pick any paid plan. Your ChatGPT connection stays linked in case you want to flip back, but AI calls go through LorePanic's own providers again. You can also unlink entirely from Profile → Disconnect.

FAQ

Does LorePanic see my ChatGPT conversations?

No. Your ChatGPT chats are entirely separate from LorePanic. We only use the access token to make API calls for your LorePanic activity.

Do I need ChatGPT Plus, or will the free ChatGPT tier work?

You need Plus or Pro. The free ChatGPT tier doesn't include the API access we call into.

Can my players share my ChatGPT Plus?

No. The token is tied to your LorePanic account. Each player who wants this tier needs their own ChatGPT Plus and their own connection.

What happens if my ChatGPT subscription lapses?

The token starts failing and LorePanic will show a "reconnect" prompt. Your account falls back to whichever plan you were on before, or to Free.

Is my data any less private on this tier?

Your prompts go to OpenAI either way, whether through LorePanic's keys or yours. The privacy posture is the same.
